AP Chemistry
All resources below this description :)
Advanced Placement Chemistry is a year long course designed to explore concepts in chemistry after a first year course.
- I follow the AP College Board Course Description but have moved some learning objectives to a slightly different order.
- I utilize Modeling Instruction, POGIL, inquiry labs, and simulations.
- Most packets have a blend of my own introductory questions and very old (circa 1990s-early 2000s) AP Questions. I utilize more recent exam questions in my exams and end of year review.
- I created my own flipped videos that I used to review topics after they have been introduced in class. You can find them on EDpuzzle or youtube.
- The chill logs are used as a way to help students identify important sub topics to take notes about. They can take notes during class or during their flipped videos. I don't provide formal notes during class but I do have the PowerPoint Slides I use in the flipped videos linked below. I don't collect notes or require them in my AP course, but I do recommend them. In unit 1 I model what I expect from good note keeping with the chill log 1.
- I assess students consistently with small quizzes almost weekly and larger exams twice a quarter. I give one "mock" AP exam in April and I count it towards their class grade. We review it and use other recent exams to review before the AP Exam.
- I use AP classroom as an extra feature.
- I "assign" the videos but they aren't required (since I really have no way of knowing f they are actually watched!).
- I assign the progress checks as a quiz they can do at home. If they take advantage of the progress check and pass it, they can have one quiz grade in that unit dropped.
- I assign the practice exams in class on the last few weeks of school.
- Please read more about my philosophies on the "About Ms. Drury" section and drop down pages.
